Upload files
Transfer website files via file manager or SFTP.
The website is stored as files in the web folder of the domain. The web server delivers exactly these files to visitors. The start page is usually called index.html or index.php. This applies to your own HTML and PHP pages just as it does to files generated by a CMS such as WordPress.
In the file manager
- Open the file manager: In Plesk, select Files and open the web folder of the domain.
- Upload: Select files and upload them. Folders can be created in the interface.
Via SFTP
For larger amounts of files, an FTP program is more convenient. A program such as FileZilla connects with the server, user and password from Plesk. SFTP transfers data encrypted and should be preferred. The default port for SFTP is 22.
- Protocol: Choose SFTP, not FTP.
- Server, port, user, password: These details are shown in Plesk.

Permissions
Folders usually need the permissions 755, files 644. With these values the web server can read, but nobody except the owner can change anything. Wrong permissions often lead to "403 Forbidden" on the website.
